Limitation of SYNONYMS in SQL Server

Below are the limitation or drawback of synonyms

Ø  No schema binding

o   Cannot be schema bounded.
o   Do not prevent against underlying schema.

Ø  It provides zero structural guarantee.
Ø  Weak dependency tracking.
Ø  No alter support.
Ø  No synonym chaining allowed.
Ø  Security confusion.
Ø  Hide cross database.
Ø  Not supported in schema bounded objects.
Ø  Poor tooling & refactoring support.
Ø  Azure SQL limitation: in azure SQL server database cross database synonym not allowed.

Ø  Encourage loose architecture.
